~ I believe in teaching movement and rhythm first, getting comfortable with balance and fixing posture, before loading up on step patterns. I believe in creative expression, so I teach my students a foundation for how a particular dance works, and then show them how to create their own patterns. I use easy analogies that everyone can relate to and work on getting every student to 'feel' the dance, not 'think' it. My methods are tried and tested over 24 years and they work. I teach primarily social dancing, so my goal is to have my students out using it as soon as possible. With dances that have a street style and a ballroom style, I teach the street/club style that is being used out in the clubs. ~
~Everyone has the capacity to dance. Fear is what stops us from expressing ourselves in this naturally creative way. All babies move to music, instinctively. With the right kind of instruction from someone who understands what it takes to lose that fear, everyone can dance socially. This is why I teach dancing. I love to help people experience their natural, expressive selves to music. It's very rewarding for both parties, to quote a well-known commercial, priceless, really.
